Colonel Carrillo

**Netflix Character Allegedly Based on Real-Life Colonel Dies in Series Twist** In its recently released Season 2, Netflix's hit drama "Narcos" has introduced a new character named Colonel Horacio Carrillo, who is said to be loosely based on Colonel Hugo Martinez. However, the series has now revealed a somber twist: Martinez, who is depicted as the leader of the Colombian forces tasked with taking down Pablo Escobar, is not real. Colonel Carrillo, also known as "Colonel Carrillo," is portrayed as the head of the Search Bloc police unit. Critics have noted similarities between him and Martinez, a former head of the Colombian Search Bloc. However, Martinez has since been identified as a "fictionalized version" of a real-life figure. Martinez, whose full name was General Hugo Rafael Martínez Poveda, was a Colombian police officer who served as the first head of the Colombian Search Bloc, a special police unit tasked with hunting down Escobar. Martinez died in 2020 at the age of 78. In the series, Carrillo is killed in a manner that differs from Martinez's actual life. The twist has left fans of the show wondering about the accuracy and intentions of the series. While "Narcos" has been praised for its portrayal of the drug war and Escobar's rise and fall, the revelation that a key character is fictionalized raises questions about the show's authenticity.
